Abstract

Introduction: There is a limited understanding of the impact of oral diseases on the population of Ecuador due to a lack of research on the patterns of such diseases. This study's main objective was to provide a descriptive analysis of hospital admissions related to oral health in Ecuador over the five years before the pandemic. Methods: The National Institute of Statistics and Census conducted an ecological study using hospital discharge records. They merged annual databases to maintain continuity of information and analyzed the temporal evolution of oral conditions based on gender, age, and province using the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) categories K00-K14. Results: The annual recorded admissions varied between 2000, peaking in 2016 and dropping to a low in 2019. Impacted and included teeth were the most common oral diseases. Conclusions: This analysis examines the epidemiological profile of oral diseases in Ecuador, based on hospital admissions related to oral health.
