THE PRACTICE OF HEALTH IN THE RURAL WORLD
Abstract
Most people mistakenly define rural by the quality and quantity of basic services or access and remoteness of urban areas. The rural can not be defined as "non-urban". Rural and marginal are not synonymous, since some tourist, rural areas have infrastructure equal to or better than urban centers. (one)
Developed countries tend to define the rural using the size of communities (population) and distance. This criterion is not very useful in the third world countries, because they are small countries, where the size of the population has little relation with the degree of development of infrastructure and services.
