Frequency of fractures in pediatric patients under 10 years old in Latacunga hospital
Abstract
Fractures in pediatric patients are important pathologies, which are a problem to be solved for the public health of our country. The objective of the study was to determine the predisposing factors to suffer this type of pathology. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out by collecting data from clinical records in the Pediatric Unit of the General Hospital of Latacunga. To collect information, 1800 medical records of patients admitted to this unit were reviewed, of which 54 presented a diagnosis of fracture. It was found that children with an age between 6 and 10 years of age who resided in the urban area were the most affected, as well as the most frequent anatomical site for this type of injury was the upper extremities, with undisplaced fractures and his treatment was non-surgical. The variables analyzed belong to very determining factors for the prevention of these pathologies that must be socialized in our environment, thus avoiding an increase in morbidity and mortality rates in this age group.
