Impact of event-based surveillance at the community level in low- and middle-income countries: a structured summary of evidence using FRISBEE methodology.

Abstract

Event-Based Surveillance at the community level is a vital tool in low- and middle-income countries to monitor and respond to public health threats. However, its actual impact on community health remains unclear. Methods: We conducted a thorough search on Epistemonikos, which is the largest systematic review database in the health sector. The database is maintained by screening multiple sources of information, including PUBMED-MEDLINE, EMBASE, and COCHRANE, among others. After identifying the reviews, we extracted and analyzed data from the primary studies. We used the Joanna Briggs Institute's critical appraisal checklist for systematic reviews to assess the reviews found. Finally, we prepared a summary matrix of the findings. Results: Five systematic reviews were identified that provide primary data on the impact of Event-Based Surveillance at the community level. Conclusions: The results suggest that this surveillance method can provide valuable information to strengthen early warning systems, positively impacting community health. However, more evidence is needed to confirm its definitive impact.
