Factors associated with teenage pregnancy in Ecuador and the role of the first level of health care: An analysis based on the ENSANUT 2018 instrument
Abstract
Introduction: Ecuador is the tenth country with the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Latin America, this is a problem that has social and economic consequences. The objective of this study is to describe the factors associated with teenage pregnancy in Ecuador using data from ENSANUT 2018 and analyze the role of the first level of health care in caring for this vulnerable group.
Methods: We analyzed the National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT) 2018. The research takes a descriptive analytical approach by investigating variables such as age, education level, region and area of residence, and knowledge and usage of contraceptive methods. The findings show that age, education level, and region of residence are significant factors that contribute to adolescent pregnancy. The study reveals a correlation between education level and the likelihood of teenage pregnancy. The research emphasizes the factors associated with teenage pregnancy in Ecuador, and identifies some barriers to access to the health system. The study concludes by highlighting the need for effective public policies and strategies that aim to improve access to sexual and reproductive health education and services for adolescents. The goal is to reduce adolescent pregnancy rates and improve their quality of life in Ecuador.
